Applying Professional Scrum™ for Software Development (APS-SD) is a 3-day hands-on course where students experience how to deliver quality software using Scrum with Agile and DevOps practices. Students work in Scrum Teams over a series of Sprints, creating code on a realistic software system to learn Scrum while using Scrum. The course, formerly known as Professional Scrum Developer, includes a free attempt at the globally recognized Professional Scrum Developer I certification exam (PSD I).

• The Scrum Framework• Working within a Scrum Team

• Definition of Done

• Backlog management practices and slicing features

• Code quality and Technical Debt

• Agile architecture practices

• Test Driven Development

• Pair Programming

• Agile Testing and other practices to ensure quality

• Using DevOps with Scrum

Course Overview

Over the 3 days, students gain a real-world view of what it is like to build software with Scrum. They collaborate over a series of Sprints applying modern engineering practices, and using the Scrum framework to manage complexity. The key focus of the class is on how to develop and deliver increments of releasable functionality. Students will experience real-world challenges and issues, and through a series of Sprints will learn how to continuously improve the way they perform their work.

The course teaches how Agile engineering practices and supportive DevOps tools complement Scrum and further advance a team’s capabilities. This course provides greatest value if the whole Scrum Team (Developers, Scrum Master and Product Owner) attend together and experience the power of real teamwork. Teams that attend together are not only able to apply learnings to their work immediately, but are also able to recall their classroom experiences to overcome particularly challenging times.

The course is available in .NET and Java specific technologies, along with a generic technology course. Professional Scrum Trainers can work with you to define a specific technology stack that meets your needs in private classes for your organization.

The .NET version was developed in partnership with Microsoft® and is the official training solution for Microsoft Visual Studio.

The Course Stewards Model

Each Scrum.org course is assigned 2 stewards. The stewards are ultimately responsible for collecting input on the course materials, both those that exist and potentially additions to be made, review that input with the community along with Ken Schwaber and provide updates as required.

Each course is stored in GitHub, allowing version control, feedback mechanisms, distribution and much more, not unlike the code that Scrum Teams deliver for their products. Through GitHub capabilities, a PST can submit feedback on a course materials, its delivery content, speaker notes, exercises and much more. With PSTs around the world teaching the materials, that provides a fantastic number of people to provide excellent feedback to improve the content and quality of the courseware.

Good to know

If you have any questions relating to this course or to the booking process that are not answer on this page, please get in touch.

What preparation should I do before the course?

This will depend on the level of the course you are taking. If you are planning to do one of the foundational courses, then apart from reading the Scrum Guide and being familiar with the content in that, it's entirely up to each student to determine what - if any - preparatory work that they wish to do.

For the more advanced courses, we would recommend that you make sure that you are up to date with your foundational knowledge. You may also wish to read about the course subject in advance - if you would like any recommendations on resources that we think would help you, feel free to contact us.

What payment options do you accept?

We accept either AED or USD via the following payment methods:

  • Invoice - note that all invoices will need to be paid in full at least 10 days prior to the course date. For bookings made within 10 days, invoices are payable immediately.
  • Using a bank card via our payment partner Stripe
  • PayPal
  • Bank transfer - transfers will need to be received at least 10 days prior to the course date.
  • Cryptocurrency - we accept USDC, Bitcoin and Ethereum. Contact us to arrange this.

If you have questions or requests to make related to payment, please get in touch.

Do you offer private courses or training courses on dates that work for me?

Yes, we do offer this. If you can't see a course date that works for you, or if you want to explore the option of having training course dedicated to you or your organisation/team, just get in touch.

Can I cancel or change my booking?

If you are more than 10 days away from the date on which your course is scheduled to take place, you can cancel a course booking at any stage and request a refund. However, there is a small administrative fee of $20, which will be deducted from your refund amount, which is to cover the fees we incur when processing payments and refunds. For cancellations within 10 days of the course date, a 50% refund will be issued.

For date changes for courses that not within the next 10 days, you can contact us at any time to request to move your booking to another date.

I've got some colleagues/friends that are interested in attending a course - can I refer them to you?

Yes, of course. We'd be happy to receive introductions to any of your friends or colleagues that are interested in attending a course run by Agility Arabia. As a thank you to anyone referring, we will pay out 10% of the invoice when your referred friends/colleagues make a booking. Just be sure to let us know before they make a booking. Referral pay-outs are not offered retrospectively, so if they have booked and paid before you've made the referral, then you will not be eligible for a payment.

What happens if Agility Arabia cancels my course?

Whilst we do all we can to avoid cancelling public courses, there is a minimum number of students required for each course to go ahead. This is to ensure that there are sufficient attendees to make the learning experience valuable for everyone - Scrum.org courses are collaborative learning experiences that require interaction between students.

So for courses that are currently below that minimum, the advertised course date is provisional. Once the course has reached the minimum number of required students, we will let you know. Should a course not reach that minimum number of required students, you will automatically be refunded in full or offered the chance to select an alternative date that works for you.

What does my training course payment cover?

For both remote and in-person courses, your fee covers the tuition and two attempts at the Scrum.org exam. Should you not pass first time, you will have a second opportunity to take the exam within 14 days of the first exam.

If you've booked an in-person course, you'll need to cover your travel costs and any expenses during the day (e.g. lunch and refreshments).

Do you offer discounts?

If you are looking to make a bulk booking for multiple students, please get in touch with us directly to discuss options.

For individuals that have taken a Scrum.org PSM or PSPO course can take advantage of a 40% discount on next level courses. For example, if you have taken a PSM-I course, you can get a 40% discount on a PSM-II course. Similarly, PSM-II course attendees can get 40% off a PSM-III course. And for PSPO-I course attendees, there is a 40% discount on a PSPO-II course.

Is the booking process secure?

Don't worry - we use a reputable, industry leading payment provider (Stripe) to process payments. That means that Agility Arabia does not have visibility or access to your payment details at any stage.

The only personal details we will store as a result of a course or meeting booking will be your name and contact details so that we can manage your course booking.

Do I need to pay VAT?

For students that either (1) live in, or (2) attend an in-person course in a country within the GCC (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and Oman), you will need to pay VAT of 5% on their bookings. For non-GCC residents who attend a course from outside the GCC, VAT is not charged.

If you need a VAT receipt, just let us know.

Is there any difference between a virtual course and an in-person course?

Regardless of whether you're attending a course in-person or virtually, there is no difference in the course content or the Scrum.org certificate that those that pass the exam will receive.

Why do you ask for my country of residence during the booking process?

Scrum.org offers different course pricing based on a person's country of residence. So in order to correctly charge students, we need to know what country each student is based in - and this will include a proof-of-address check.
